Teens woman sentenced to caning for adultery

MALE, Maldives - A court in the Maldives dropping in public caning of a young 16-year-old woman after she admits adultery, officials said yesterday.

The unnamed teenager was found guilty after he made ​​a confession through Sharia law.

Confession was made after the family complained that he was having sex with a 29-year-old man in July.

 

The man was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on the basis of civil law provisions in a district court in Raa atoll on Sunday for having sex with underage girls.

 

A court official said the girl may refuse to perform corporal punishment in public to be replaced with a sentence of house arrest for eight months under local law.

The court ordered the caning was done when the girl was 18. - AFP
