Buddhist monks Rohingya claim to another country: An affront and insult to Muslims

YANGON, Myanmar - Hundreds of Buddhist monks in Myanmar yesterday joined the rally in support of President Thein Sein proposal to send Rohingya Muslims to other countries.


Gathering place that is the latest indication of anti-Rohingya sentiment deep in the country. It happened after a brawl involving inter-ethnic violence that Bergama Buddhist Rakhine as Rohingya in June last.


In the incident, a total of 80 people were killed and tens of thousands homeless. In July, Sein suggested that all Rohingya Myanmar sent to countries that are interested in receiving them. The proposal was opposed to a refugee agency of the United Nations (UN). Myanmar described the Rohingya as illegal migrants from Bangladesh.


However, Bangladesh is also charged with not accept these ethnic thus causing them no citizenship. The UN estimates that about 800,000 Rohingya living in Myanmar society. The violence that occurred in June was due to allegations that a woman was raped by Rakhine ethnic Rohingya population. - Agencies
