AS-MQ FDC tablet capable treat malaria within 3 days
KUALA LUMPUR - The malaria patients now have the option of new drugs to treat the disease more effectively and quickly the fixed-dose combination of Artesunate-Mefloquine treatment or known AS-MQ FDC.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the US-MQ FDC drugs introduced by an independent research institute based in Switzerland, Drugs for neglected Diseases Initiatives (DNDi) and it is able to treat the disease within three days instead of seven to 14 days before this.
He said US-MQ FDC is a combination of two types of drugs used to treat malaria that Artesunate and Mefloquine was once eaten separately but now comes in a pill alone.
"People only have to eat pills and eat a piece a day for three days. The result is also fast and robust than ever before because the patient takes a long time, up to 14 days to heal.
"AS-MQ FDC is priced at RM9 for three seeds for adults and RM4 and RM5 for children," he said at a press conference yesterday.
