Shiasim adherents in Indonesia attacked

Smith Island, Indonesia - The attack on Shiite devotees faith in Indonesia, two men were killed and dozens of houses burnt.

About 500 people are adherents of Sunni said small machetes attacked a group of students in the city Sampang, East Java province on Sunday.

"Increasing religious rifts because law enforcement to deal with terrorism is not implemented effectively. Situation encourages violence against civilians," said the researchers of the Institute for Democracy and Peace Equivalents, Ismail Hasani.

 


East Java provincial police spokesman, Hilman Thayib told, two men were killed and six others injured. While a total of 39 houses burnt in the attack. According to him, nearly 2,000 police and security officers ordered to the scene to control the situation.

"The victim died of sickle attacked. A dead at the scene and another died this morning. Far, we have arrested eight suspects," said Thayib.

 

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono today ordered authorities to take stern action to prevent similar incidents from recurring.

This is not the first incident in the province. Last December, the adherents of Shia belief in Nangkernang attacked. Hundreds of homes and a religious school burned, thus forcing 500 people who had fled from their villages. - AFP
